Lumi Learning is a free 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides one-on-one online tutoring for K-8 students. We take the privacy of children and families seriously. This notice explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@lumilearning.org.
What we collect
For a parent or guardian: your name, email, phone number, time zone, and the messages you send through Lumi. For a student: first name, grade level, subjects, learning goals, confidence and interests, and notes about how sessions go. We collect only what we reasonably need to run tutoring. We do not ask for, and you should not share, information we do not need.
Why we collect it
To schedule and run tutoring sessions, match students with tutors, send reminders and updates, support your child's learning, and keep the program safe and reliable.
What tutors can and cannot see
Tutors see only what they need to teach well: a student's first name, grade, subjects, goals, confidence, and interests. Tutors cannot see a student's last name, date of birth, school, home address, or any parent contact information. This limit is enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the portal. Leadership can see full records to run the program and help with problems.
Services that help us run Lumi
We use a small number of trusted services to operate, and share only what each needs:
- Base44 hosts the portal and stores our data.
- Wix powers our public site and booking calendar.
- Twilio (and Zapier) send text-message reminders and updates.
- Google provides sign-in and email delivery.
Text messages
With your consent, Lumi sends texts about sessions, reminders, and coverage. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out, START to resume, or HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your tutoring.
Your choices and rights
You can review, correct, or delete your information, or ask us to stop using your child's information at any time, by emailing support@lumilearning.org. We will respond promptly. As the parent or guardian, you are in control of your child's information.
How long we keep it
We keep information for as long as your family or tutor is active with Lumi, and for a reasonable period afterward for our records as a nonprofit. When you ask us to delete information, we remove it unless we are required to keep it.
Keeping information safe
We restrict access to sensitive information to the people who need it, protect accounts with sign-in, and limit what tutors can see at the server level. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your family's information.
