About Lumi Learning

Lumi Learning is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized tutoring to K–8 students. Our mission is to close the opportunity gap in education by connecting motivated volunteer tutors with families who need academic support, at no cost to the families we serve.

What We Do

The Lumi Learning portal is the operational hub that powers our tutoring program. It enables families to view upcoming sessions, communicate directly with their assigned tutor, and track their child's learning progress over time. Tutors use the portal to manage their schedules, claim open shifts, submit post-session progress reports, and coordinate with our leadership team. Our administrative tools let the Lumi team match students with the right tutors, organize recurring weekly sessions, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks, from session reminders to coverage when a tutor needs to reschedule.

Who We Serve

We serve K–8 students and their families, with a special focus on underserved communities in the greater Chicago area. Our Summer Spark program provides intensive summer learning support to help students avoid the "summer slide" and start the next school year strong. All of our tutoring is provided free of charge to families, made possible by our dedicated volunteer tutors and generous donors.

Lumi Learning is built and operated by a small, passionate leadership team alongside a community of volunteer tutors: college students, educators, and professionals who give their time to make a difference.
